Frequently Asked Questions

What sets Midwest Construction apart from other contractors?

We’re licensed, insured, and focused on quality, communication, and reliability. No high-pressure sales, no hidden costs — just honest work done right, by a team that treats your home with respect.

How do you protect my home during the remodel?

We take pride in keeping your home safe and clean. We use floor coverings, plastic barriers, and dust control methods to protect surrounding areas — and we always clean up at the end of each day.

Are you a licensed and insured contractor in Michigan?

Yes. Midwest Neighborhood Builders Solutions is a licensed and insured Michigan contractor (License #242100898). We follow state and local building codes and coordinate inspections when they’re required for your project.

Do you offer free estimates for kitchen and bathroom remodels?

Yes. We provide free, no-obligation estimates for homeowners in our service areas. During the estimate, we’ll look at your space, talk through your goals and budget, and then send a written proposal you can review on your own time.

How long will my project take?

Timeframes vary based on project size and scope. A cosmetic bathroom update may take 5–10 days, while a full remodel could take longer. We provide detailed timelines up front.

What areas do you serve around Grand Rapids and Detroit?

We serve Grand Rapids and nearby communities in West Michigan, as well as the Detroit area and surrounding suburbs. If you’re within driving distance of those areas, you can reach out with your address and project details and we’ll let you know if we can help.

How long does a typical kitchen or bathroom remodel take?

Timelines depend on the size and complexity of your project. Smaller bathroom updates might take a couple of weeks once work begins, while larger kitchen remodels can take several weeks. After your estimate, we’ll give you a realistic schedule based on material availability and the scope of work.

Can you help with design choices like tile, flooring, and fixtures?

Yes. We can recommend materials and finishes that fit your budget and stand up to everyday use. If you already have a designer or specific products picked out, we’re happy to work with those as well.

What’s the best way to get started with Midwest Neighborhood Builders?

The easiest way to get started is to request a free estimate. Share a few details about your kitchen, bathroom, or home project—plus photos if you have them—and we’ll follow up to schedule a visit.

Do you offer financing or payment plans?

Sorry, we do not at this time but we are looking to work with trusted partners to offer flexible financing in the future.

What kinds of remodeling projects does Midwest Neighborhood Builders handle?

Midwest Neighborhood Builders focuses on kitchen remodels, bathroom remodels, whole-home interior updates, ADA/aging-in-place modifications, and repair work for homeowners in the Grand Rapids and Detroit areas. We handle everything from new layouts and cabinets to tile, drywall, and finish carpentry, depending on your project.

Can I live in my home during the remodel?

Yes, in most cases. We plan our work to minimize disruption and keep your space as safe and clean as possible. For larger projects, we’ll let you know if temporary relocation is recommended.

Do you pull the permits, or do I have to?

We handle all necessary permits and code requirements for your project. As a licensed Michigan contractor, we ensure all work is done to meet or exceed local building codes.

What happens if something unexpected comes up during the job?

We’ll communicate with you immediately if we find hidden damage or issues behind walls, under floors, etc. We’ll explain the problem, recommend a solution, and only proceed with your approval.

How is payment handled?

We typically require a deposit to begin work, with progress payments made at key project milestones. The final balance is due upon completion and your full satisfaction.

Do you offer warranties on your work?

Yes. We stand by our craftsmanship and offer a workmanship warranty on all remodeling services. Product warranties vary by manufacturer and will be provided during the material selection phase.

Do you work year-round, even in winter?

Yes, we remodel year-round, including interior work during winter months. Cold weather won’t stop us from completing bathroom, kitchen, or basement projects on time.

Do you handle plumbing and electrical work too?

Yes — we coordinate all necessary trades including licensed plumbers and electricians. You don’t need to hire multiple contractors; we manage the entire process for you.

Do you work with homeowners, property investors, or landlords?

Yes, we work with all types of clients — from homeowners and landlords to real estate investors and property managers. We can tailor our services to fit rental properties or resale goals.

Do I need to be home during the estimate or the work?

For the initial estimate, we recommend that the homeowner is present to discuss project details. During the work, it’s not required that you’re home all the time — as long as we have access, we’ll keep you updated daily.

How is payment handled?

We typically require a deposit to begin work, with progress payments made at key project milestones. The final balance is due upon completion and your full satisfaction.

How far in advance should I book a remodel?

We recommend reaching out at least 4–6 weeks before your ideal start date. Larger projects or peak seasons may require more lead time. The sooner you book, the better we can plan and lock in materials.

What kind of flooring do you recommend for bathrooms or basements?

We typically recommend water-resistant options like ceramic tile, vinyl plank (LVP), or porcelain tile for bathrooms and basements. We’ll guide you based on style, durability, and your budget.

What if I want to make changes during the project?

We understand ideas evolve. Any changes will be documented through a change order, and we’ll explain how they affect cost or timeline before proceeding — no surprises.
